We are glad to share with you below the interview Yokoteen gave on the occasion of the Solo Show "Blue Breeze" that will inaugurate in DCG London on April 20th:

Can you tell us a little about your background and how you became an artist?

I have been drawing since I was a child. From a young age, I had a natural affinity for creating art, and it quickly became a hobby that I enjoyed. I was not particularly interested in academics or traditional forms of learning, but I found joy in the process of creating something beautiful through art. As I continued to develop my skills, I began to explore different mediums and techniques, and eventually found my passion in painting

Your signature character is often depicted surfing in Hawaiian landscapes. What draws you to this subject matter?

When it comes to my signature character surfing in Hawaiian landscapes, the inspiration for this subject matter comes from a personal experience. I had the opportunity to visit Hawaii in the past and was struck by the natural beauty of the landscape, especially the ocean and the waves. I found myself drawn to this subject matter and began incorporating it into my artwork. Surfing is a popular activity in Hawaii, and it represents a sense of freedom, joy, and connection with nature that I aim to capture in my paintings

Your artwork often carries a message of serenity and peace. What inspired you to convey these values through your paintings?

The message of serenity and peace that I convey through my artwork is something that has always been important to me. I believe that we live in a world that can be chaotic and stressful, and it can be difficult to find a sense of peace and tranquility in our daily lives. Through my paintings, I hope to create a sense of calm and relaxation for the viewer, and to remind them of the beauty and peace that can be found in the world around us.

How do you approach the creative process when starting a new piece of artwork?

I approach the creative process with a sense of openness and intuition. I try to feel the image that I want to create and visualize it in my mind's eye, allowing the painting to take shape organically as I work. I also rely on my technical skills and experience to bring the vision to life, and I am always open to experimentation and new techniques to enhance the creative process

What role does the element of water play in your artwork and what significance does it hold for you?

Water is an important element in my artwork, and I have always been drawn to the movement and fluidity of waves and water. I find that water represents a sense of freedom and possibility, as well as a connection to the natural world. My friend was particularly delighted when I drew a picture of waves, and this inspired me to continue exploring water as a subject matter in my paintings

You are a self-taught artist. How did you develop your technical skills and what challenges did you face during the learning process?

As a self-taught artist, I developed my technical skills through a process of trial and error. I began with simple techniques and materials, and gradually expanded my knowledge and abilities as I continued to paint. There were many challenges along the way, including mastering new techniques and finding my own voice as an artist.

Your Friends in Paradise series has gained global recognition. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind this series and what it means to you?

The inspiration behind my Friends in Paradise series is simply to create beautiful and uplifting images that bring joy to the viewer. I believe that there is beauty in simplicity, and I strive to capture this in my paintings. Each painting in the series contains various elements that reflect my personal vision and style, and I hope that the series continues to resonate with viewers around the world.

How has your art evolved over time and what have been some of the most significant milestones in your artistic journey so far?

My art has evolved over time as I continue to experiment with new techniques and materials. I have also expanded my subject matter beyond water and waves, exploring new themes and ideas that inspire me. Some of the most significant milestones in my artistic journey so far have been the recognition and appreciation that my work has received from viewers and collectors around the world. It is humbling and inspiring to know that my art has the power to connect with people on a deep and meaningful level

What can we expect to see from you in the future and what new projects are you currently working on?

I will continue to create and share my art with the world. I am always exploring new techniques and subject matter, and I am excited to see where my creativity takes me.
