For The Human Odyssey, I created two sister-pieces, The Lighthouse and La Luna, which mirror each other. The Lighthouse is a pivotal piece in the collection for me. With everything our world has experienced this year, this painting’s symbolism feels the most poignant. Inside this figure is the light of the sun, a guiding beacon for us as daily travellers orbiting it. I painted this piece with the feeling that the world has had a shadow cast over it, and felt turbulent and stormy. But it’s important we remember that our strength, positivity and willpower must shine through from the inside. Our hearts have to be the beacon of light in those feelings of darkness, even when we feel lost at sea. And even when we don’t see our way clear through the clouds, we need to trust our hearts to guide us.
