Standing amongst an autumnal garden with pumpkins, apples, oranges, and flowers, possibly an allegory for the Orange Garden, rests gracefully but apprehensively, looking out at the viewer with a youthful but solemn expression. Their eyes carry a wait in them, their hands limply holding onto a piece of their garden, as if they can feel the end of their beautiful garden coming closer, out in the distance. White doves cluster around the figure, emphasizing the tranquility of this bountiful garden. Bezhen draws on her inspiration of Northern Renaissance masters in her clarity of this figure and the minute details that invite the viewer to move closer and look just a moment longer. It’s a scene of fertility, of peace, and of the orange glow of a final harvest before the chill of winter settles in.
