NAOTO HATTORI: Nothing But Perception: Dorothy Circus Rome | Solo Show

12 Apr - 6 May 2014

“Now we have a computer, a video and numerous other things, so that contemporary art became abstract and people rely on a computer and tend to forget about traditional art. I’m young but I just want to show people that surreal style of painting is still not dead.  I keep making fresh pieces and amaze people through my visions”.
~Naoto Hattori

Dorothy Circus Gallery is ready to celebrate the month of April and the arrival of the Spring with the second Italian solo exhibition by Naoto Hattori, the Japanese artist author of a fascinating and unique dreamlike universe made tangible through his iperealistic technique.

Hattori, already presented by the Dorothy Circus Gallery in 2011 with the exhibition “The Magic Caravan”, brings back his Circus in town. This time, we are welcomed by bear-headed soft pin-ups, inaccessible and lonely princesses, absolute owners of the visual art they belong to, Cyclopic cats, kings of the meticulous galaxy of energy and emotions that dominates our real world.

Like a Carnival crossing the night, Hattori’s brand new artworks open the doors of our perception, freeing up our eyes to the overturned world of dreams and subconscious. Their color palette dips from the nocturnal universe, and while the friendly aliens are colored by the blue and golden lights of the stars, Hattori’s personal perceptiveness and sensorial system show how to let in the magical stream as the expression of our psyche.

“Nothing But Perception” is the title of this brand new series, created specifically for Dorothy Circus Gallery. This series consists of 11 brand new artworks, in which the psychedelic “microcosmos” created by Hattori and a new, elaborated vision offers an hyper-modern inner perception of life and its universe .

So while the sun rises in these spring days, the art of Hattori plays a dance that leaves us suspended among the clouds, in a safe chaos that lulls us with irony, in total absence of gravity.
