This October, Dorothy Circus Gallery London is proud to present A Window on the World, the debut UK solo exhibition of French artist Flog. This new body of work continues the evolution of his celebrated Human of Glass series while introducing fresh narratives.
At the heart of A Window on the World is the dialogue between Flog’s signature transparent figure and the recurring motif of the window. For Flog, the window serves as a conceptual anchor: a threshold between inside and outside, where introspection meets openness. It draws the gaze outward toward possibility and connection, while preserving the intimacy of interior life.
In this series, the Human of Glass stands at that threshold, sometimes pausing, sometimes stepping through. First introduced in 2020, this fragile yet luminous figure has always carried memory and emotion, reflecting our shared humanity. Through layers of spray paint, acrylic, and airbrush, Flog brings these characters to life, allowing light and colour to move through their forms. The result is a dreamlike space where narrative remains open, and each work becomes a mirror for the viewer’s own reflections. As Flog explains, this exhibition is about sharing—sharing a feeling, a memory, an emotion that transcends the surface of the image.
For the first time, the exhibition introduces a second figure: a female presence who broadens the narrative possibilities within Flog’s universe. Together, the two figures engage in a dialogue, their relationship deliberately left to the viewer’s interpretation. In line with Flog’s characteristic style, the figures often appear to levitate or float, a motif with a rich lineage in art history. From the ethereal angels of the Renaissance to Surrealist experiments with the human form, floating figures have long signified the tension between materiality and transcendence. In Flog’s work, levitation serves as a narrative device and a symbol, exploring emotional openness and the shifting boundaries between inner and outer worlds.
Suffused with tones of sky blue — a colour Flog associates with transformation and new beginnings — A Window on the World explores universal experiences: intimacy, courage, vulnerability, and the choice to step forward. Each threshold becomes a challenge and an invitation.
Dorothy Circus Gallery is delighted to welcome Flog to London for this milestone exhibition, on view from 10–30 October at 35 Connaught Street, W2 2AZ, with the private vernissage on Thursday 9 October.
