Mark Ryden è indubbiamente un artista senza precedenti, che già dagli esordi della sua carriera ci ha fatto sognare e ci ha sedotto con le sue opere caratterizzate da sgargianti palette e da una tecnica sconvolgente.

On the occasion of the beginning of the 15th year from its foundation Dorothy Circus Gallery Rome is extremely proud to present for the first time in its own space  a solo exhibition by the contemporary painter Jana Brike titled Forever and A Day.

As a women founded and run industry Dorothy Circus has always spread social values and stood for the bold, the  impact and the change. 

Jana Brike’s Art is dearly rooted in the gallery core concept which has always directed its efforts towards curating exhibitions that focused on the return of the female narratives in Art, with particular attention to women artists bringing the public attention to the female voice as the narrator and the connector of humanity. Sensitive topics of feminism, gender equality and women's rights have been emphasised through the gallery’s curatorial programme, which also recently dedicated particular attention to maternal relations and female iconography in the art world with the major collective exhibition ‘Mother and Child’ held both in Rome and London also featuring Jana Brike’s painting “the Peaceful Warrior”.

About the artist

Born in Soviet-occupied Latvia in 1980, Jana Brike is a figurative painter creating extraordinary whimsical scenarios  through which we glimpse into an intimate world of what she describes as a ‘poetic visual autobiography’. Common to all of her works is the wondrous and regenerative presence of nature, especially the archetype of water that together with other elements composes an intuitive and personal symbolism through which the artist engages with themes of exploration, growth, innocence, curiosity, transcendence and love.

Her detailed dreamscapes show human figures, often adolescent females, in playful and unselfconscious discovery of the world around them. There is often a juxtaposition of harshness with softness in her paintings, with figures showing bloody scratches, incisions or redness on their skin and surrounded by butterflies or flowers. Vulnerability and intimacy is also an important characteristic of Brike’s work. Nakedness and nature often go together in her paintings, and Brike has described the human body as ‘vulnerability in its nakedness’.

The frequently portrayed adolescent girls, sometimes depicted in scenes of erotic exploration are metaphors for the continual discovery of ourselves and represent the growth we all do throughout our lives no matter what our biological age or gender. 

Her works in this way act as a paean to free-spirited femininity, a celebration of Earth and nature, and freedom from oppression.

The main focus of Jana Brike's art is the internal space and state of a human soul - dreams, longing, love, pain, the vast range of emotions that human condition offers and the transcendence of them all, the growing up and self-discovery...

Questa e certamente l’era del Rinascimento per l’arte tessile.

Poiche ogni giorno i tessuti raggiungono nuovi livelli e si affermano sempre di piu  nel vocabolario dell’arte moderna, grazie alle nuove tecniche che permettono di realizzare pezzi artistici e creativi di grande impatto visivo e tattile..  

Con il movimento per l’emancipazione femminile degli anni 70, il settore tessile ha intrapreso la sua propria rivoluzione rinascendo quale “Fibre Art” a pari passo con l’Arte Femminista, e finalmente si scrolla di dosso l’etichetta di “artigianato” imposta dallo snobbismo delle lobby dell’arte. L’Arte Tessile diventa cosi strumento di comunicazione sia concettuale che politico, prendendo vita al di fuori delle pareti domestiche. 

Uno dei più importanti e influenti esempi di Maestri dell’Arte Tessile è l’artista contemporanea giapponese Chiharu Shiota, le cui opere esplorano l’esistenza umana attraverso dimensioni diverse attraverso la realizzazione  di installazioni composte da intrecci di fili di grande misura. 

Ora residente a Berlino, Chiharu Shiota è conosciuta a livello mondiale per le sue elaborate installazioni di labirinti aggrovigliati che convogliano i tessuti in un'ondata surreale di arti performative incorporndo in fili di color rosso sangue, neri o bianchi, oggetti con significato personale quali vestiti, chiavi, barche, valigie, e addirittura l'artista stessa mostrando che gli umani potrebbero quasi tessere ragnatele.

“La singola linea del filo è come una pennellata in un dipinto. Con il filo, disegno nell’aria, in uno spazio senza limiti. Con il materiale, posso creare nuovi spazi. Le mie  opere potrebbero essere disallestite dopo le mostre,  ma rimarranno sempre vivide nella memoria dei visitatori.” (Chiharu Shiota for Wall Paper Magazine)

Esplorando il senso del tatto, il nostro Six Senses Concept Store, ha recentemente introdotto al pubblico  le straordinarie opere di Flavia Itibere e siamo ora orgogliosi di annunciare la nuova collaborazione con il brand Ikkimo e i suoi kimono tessuti a mano. 

Flávia Itiberê nata a San Paulo Brasile, è un'artista tessile, moglie del pittore Rafael Silveira.

Il duo, in occasione della sua mostra retrospettiva al Museo Oscar Nyeamyer in Brasile, ha lavorato fianco a fianco a un progetto che consisteva nel riprodurre le opere di Rafael Silveira in grandi lavori di ricamo. L’esordio di Flavia ha suscitato la curiosità e l'interesse di molte gallerie e collezionisti così gli artisti hanno continuato a lavorare a  quattro mani, trasformano il ricamo in opere d'arte e installazioni in cui pongono la figura femminile tipica dell’arte di Silveira, al centro delle loro narrazioni.

Ogni opera ha la sua storia e il suo significato. L'arte di Flavia Itiberê dialoga con lo spettatore nel campo onirico, nell'intimità dei pensieri, nell'origine più profonda delle scelte emotive che precedono il comportamento esterno.

L'idea dell'artista di unire le forze con il marito ha richiesto anni di pratica, ma questa decisione di Flavia, è forte e determinata nonostante sia in controtendenza con l'immediatezza che detta le regole del mondo contemporaneo. 

Dall’arte Contemporanea al moda, il Tessile fiorisce di creatività e grazie all’attenta ricerca sulla sostenibilità portata avanti da realtà indipendenti è diventato uno status che rappresenta e racconta chi siamo e i valori in cui crediamo. 

Il marchio iKKimO nasce dall'ammirazione del "saper far " degli artigiani di tutto il mondo. Viviamo oggi in una società estremamente consumistica dove tutto si assomiglia, si accumula, si butta via, diventando troppo presto “è stato”. Non sappiamo più dove e come viene prodotto ciò che mangiamo, beviamo e indossiamo. iKKim'O è un brand senza tempo, autentico, consapevole, diverso. È un piccolo marchio di produzione che si basa sull’essenza di “Less is more” e “Compra qualità, non quantità”. Tutto è prodotto localmente, la filiera è corta, ma il processo rimane lungo e lento, da qui l'uso del termine “slow fashion”, letteralmente e figurativamente. iKKim'O collabora con diversi artigiani con sede prevalentemente in Indonesia e nel sud-est asiatico con i quali sviluppa un flusso di lavoro e uno scambio efficaci. Ogni pezzo prodotto è unico e tradizionalmente tessuto a mano con tessuti naturali nuovi e riciclati dal cotone al cashmere. I modelli e i materiali differiscono a seconda della loro provenienza, rispecchiando l'origine o la cultura della gente e dell'artigiano che li ha intrecciati. Soprattutto, questo mestiere preserva il know-how delle minoranze etniche da cui provengono. Sempre meno, ci dedicano la vita. Passano giorni, settimane, a volte mesi a realizzare un solo capo di abbigliamento. 

L’arte da indossare, magistralmente eseguita nella sua unicità da Ikkimo, crew di artisti indonesiani è una tendenza che si allinea alle ricerche di numerosi altri artisti contemporanei nell’ambito dell’arte tessile. Di recente lo street artist spagnolo OKUDA San Miguel ha creato un arazzo gigante grazie all’aiuto della madre e della sorella ed ancora, Gary Baseman, uno dei maggiori esponenti del Pop Surrealismo, è stato incaricato dal direttore creativo di Coach, Stuart Vevers e dal direttore di Ready to Wear, Keith Warren di utilizzare uno dei suoi personaggi più rappresentativi per creare un maglione unico.

Although they are often overlooked, hearing and sound are essential elements of the visual arts. Sounds can create moods that evoke or lend meaning to visual images. They can change the way we see things. 

Okuda San Miguel is a contemporary Spanish painter and sculpture whose distinctive colourful and geometrical style has gained him international recognition.

Throughout the centuries, Art has provided us with the most comprehensive and intricate vision of our human psyche and history. We look at ourselves either with open eyes or closed eyes, aiming to tell our story, evolving between past and future, remaining true to ourselves and bringing to the light a circular story as a timeless travel.

Andrew Hem was born during his parents’ getaway from Cambodia in the wake of the Khmer Rouge genocide, the brutal regime that ruled Cambodia from 1975 to 1979, claiming the lives of millions of people.

Raised in Los Angeles, Hem developed his artistic imagery between the culture of the rural animistic society of his Khmer ancestors and the dynamic urban art of the tough LA neighbourhood where his family settled. 

Fascinated by the Graffiti art movement from a young age, he honed his graphic, figurative and compositional skills on the walls of LA, before the walls of the city before following a passion for figure drawing to a degree in illustration from the Art Center College of Design, where he received a BFA in 2006.
